Adult day programs offer meaningful support for individuals living in the community with services that enhance their well-being and quality of life.
What are Adult Day Services?
Adult Day Services offer a flexible and supportive alternative to long-term care, helping individuals maintain their independence and continue living at home for longer.
Who should I refer to an Adult Day Program?
Adult Day Services are a great option for older adults who are isolated and/or lack a support system. The programs allow attendees to have their base level needs met, and ensure someone is aware of ongoing health, social, or financial issues.
Programs are also great for older adults with caregivers. Participants are able to enjoy vital social and mental engagement with others outside their home while caregivers tend to other aspects of life, including self care activities. Programs also allow caregivers to stay in the workforce longer by providing a safe, home-away-from-home space for their loved one.
Adult Day Services are often an easier referral compared to wait-listed or hard-to-find home health, respite, and long-term care services. If you have a referral, contact the center with the person’s information. The center’s staff will do the rest.
What services to Adult Day Programs provide?
Adult Day Programs provide vital mental, physical, and social engagement for participants. Centers offer lunch and person-centered activities that are adaptable to an individual’s strengths.
Programs may include additional services to support the participant and caregiver. These services range from grooming and hygiene, medication management, medical exams, and visits from specialists. Some programs also offer transportation
to and from the participant’s residence.
Many centers offer a safe environment for participants with dementia, allowing the participant the socialization and mental engagement that can help with cognitive decline.
What costs are involved?
Adult Day Services cost much less than traditional long-term care, with some programs using slide-scale fees based on income.
Older Ohioans on PASSPORT or who receive VA benefits may be able to attend programs for little to no cost.
